Million Man March

The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan's leadership during the Million Man March is a powerful testament to what can be achieved when we align ourselves with God's will and act in righteousness. His ability to galvanize nearly two million Black men in 1995 was not just an extraordinary moment in history—it was a clear example of the divine power that moves through us when we are spiritually, mentally, and morally aligned.

The success of the Million Man March showed that when we approach challenges with faith, dedication, and a righteous agenda, we can move mountains. It was proof that, with God's guidance, the impossible can become possible. Minister Farrakhan's leadership embodied the idea that when we are driven by the principles of truth, justice, and love, we can mobilize multitudes, inspire change, and uplift entire communities.

Minister Farrakhan’s example serves as a reminder that true power comes from within, and when we tap into it with divine purpose, there’s no limit to what we can achieve. The pledge given by the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan at the Million Man March is timeless and can absolutely be used today as a guide to help us get back on track. The principles within that pledge are rooted in self-improvement, accountability, and collective responsibility—values that remain relevant and necessary for building strong families, communities, and future generations.

I PLEDGE that from this day forward I will strive to love my brother as I love myself. I, from this day forward, will strive to improve myself spiritually, morally, mentally, socially, politically, and economically for the benefit of myself, my family, and my people.

I pledge that I will strive to build business, build houses, build hospitals, build factories, and enter into international trade for the good of myself, my family, and my people. I pledge that from this day forward I will never raise my hand with a knife or a gun to beat, cut, or shoot any member of my family or any human being except in self-defense.

I pledge from this day forward I will never abuse my wife by striking her, disrespecting her, for she is the mother of my children and the producer of my future. I pledge that from this day forward I will never engage in the abuse of children, little boys or little girls for sexual gratification. For I will let them grow in peace to be strong men and women for the future of our people. I will never again use the “B word” to describe any female. But particularly my own Black sister.

I pledge from this day forward that I will not poison my body with drugs or that which is destructive to my health and my well-being. I pledge from this day forward I will support Black newspapers, Black radio, Black television. I will support Black artists who clean up their acts to show respect for themselves and respect for their people and respect for the ears of the human family. I will do all of this, so help me God.

This powerful pledge represents a deep commitment to personal growth, community upliftment, and strengthening family values. It advocates for love, respect, and integrity while fostering a sense of responsibility in various aspects of life: spiritually, morally, mentally, socially, politically, and economically.

The pledge emphasizes never raising a hand against others except in self-defense, respecting women and children, and rejecting abusive language and harmful substances. It promotes a higher standard of living rooted in peace and mutual respect.

It also focuses on building businesses, houses, and institutions for self and community, highlighting the importance of economic independence and self-sufficiency. Additionally, the pledge emphasizes supporting Black media and artists, underlining the need for control over the narrative and cultural representation.

This pledge calls for individual accountability, collective effort, and faith in God to guide these endeavors. It reinforces the importance of moral leadership within the community and serves as a roadmap to help individuals and communities realign with the values that lead to personal and collective elevation. It’s not just a historical statement; it’s a living commitment that, if followed, can address many of the social, economic, and spiritual challenges we face today, uniting us in a common cause.

By obligating ourselves to the commitment made on that historic day, we remind ourselves of our power to change our conditions through righteous action, discipline, and unity under God. The pledge remains a source of strength and direction for those seeking to impact their lives and community positively.
