There is a saying that many people want the rewards of success, but few are willing to endure the journey required to achieve it.
For entrepreneur Sister Karrima Muhammad, Founder and CEO of Looboos, success did not arrive overnight. Her story is a powerful reminder that entrepreneurship is not a race—it is a marathon requiring patience, sacrifice, persistence, and faith.
What began as a simple parenting challenge eventually evolved into a patented product, a growing brand, and a mission to help children develop independence while teaching valuable life skills.
The Birth of an Idea
The inspiration behind Looboos came from a familiar challenge many parents face.
"When my son Dawaud was about ten years old, getting him into the shower was never the problem," Sister Karrima explained. "The problem was that he would get in there and stand under the water without actually cleaning himself."
Like many mothers, she found herself constantly shouting instructions from down the hallway.
"Wash your face!"
"Clean behind your ears!"
"Scrub under your arms!"
One day, while calling out those reminders, a simple thought crossed her mind:
"I wish his bath cloth could remind him what to do."
That single moment became the foundation of what would later become the Looboos Scrub.
Finding a Gap in the Market
After searching online and researching existing products, Sister Karrima quickly realized something important.
There were plenty of products for babies and toddlers, but very few products designed for children transitioning toward independence.
Many children enter the shower but rush through the process. Some dislike bathing altogether. Others simply forget important hygiene steps.
Sister Karrima saw an opportunity to create something that would guide children while helping parents.
The result was a unique invention: a bath scrubber equipped with an attached audio device that provides step-by-step instructions, teaching children how to properly clean themselves from head to toe.
"It's a tool that gives children independence without requiring a parent to stand over them," she said.
A Patented Innovation
What makes the Looboos Scrub unique is that it combines a traditional bath scrubber with an integrated audio player.
The device plays an engaging instructional song that walks children through proper hygiene routines while they bathe.
The innovation was significant enough to earn Sister Karrima a United States Utility Patent for a cleaning apparatus with an attached audio device. Obtaining that patent, however, was only the beginning.
Entrepreneurship Is Not for the Faint of Heart
Many people see a product on a shelf and assume success happened quickly.
Sister Karrima's journey tells a different story.
"I had an idea, but I wasn't an engineer," she said. "I had to learn everything as I went."
She hired an attorney to protect her intellectual property and worked with a prototyping company in Missouri to transform her vision into a working product.
The process was expensive.
Patent applications cost thousands of dollars.
Prototype development cost thousands more.
Manufacturing molds required additional investments.
As a single mother working full-time, she often had to save money and move through the process one step at a time.
"There were times when I had to slow-walk the process because I simply didn't have the resources to move faster," she said. Yet she refused to quit.
The COVID Setback
Just when things appeared to be moving forward, another obstacle emerged.
By 2019, Sister Karrima had completed her prototype and submitted it for child safety testing.
The product failed testing because of issues involving a lithium battery.
Rather than abandoning the project, she made the difficult decision to redesign the product to use traditional batteries.
Then came another challenge.
Her manufacturing partners informed her that factories in China would temporarily shut down because of a new virus known as COVID-19.
What was expected to be a two-week closure turned into nearly two years.
For many entrepreneurs, that setback would have ended the journey.
For Sister Karrima, it became another chapter in the story.
Finally Bringing the Vision to Life

After years of redesigns, testing, manufacturing delays, shipping challenges, and financial sacrifices, Sister Karrima completed production.
In November 2025, she received her first major shipment of Looboos products.
Thousands of units arrived in pink, blue, and green.
A dream that began with a mother yelling down a hallway had finally become a reality.
"The first ten years weren't about building the business," she said. "They were about
That statement alone contains a powerful lesson for aspiring entrepreneurs.
The Reality of Entrepreneurship
One of the most valuable insights Sister Karrima shared during the interview was her perspective on business ownership.
"People often want instant gratification," she explained. "But entrepreneurship is a long game."
She emphasized that success requires learning multiple skills.
Today, she finds herself studying:
Marketing
Product development
Manufacturing
Branding
Retail distribution
Business-to-business sales
E-commerce operations
Every stage requires new knowledge.
Every challenge requires adaptation.
And every setback becomes another lesson.
"The race isn't won by the person who starts the fastest," she said. "It's won by those who endure."
Expanding the Looboos Brand
Sister Karrima's vision extends beyond the original scrubber.
Today, the Looboos brand includes:
The Looboos Scrub
Children's body wash
Children's lotion
Activity workbooks
Her goal is to continue expanding the product line while eventually securing placement in major retail stores.
She is currently working with industry professionals and retail consultants to position Looboos for larger distribution opportunities.
A Message for Future Entrepreneurs
Perhaps the most inspiring part of the interview came when Sister Karrima spoke directly to people who have ideas but are afraid to pursue them.
She believes countless innovations never reach the marketplace because people don't know where to begin.
"I want to reach a point where I can help others bring their ideas into reality," she said.
She also spoke passionately about the creativity that exists within the Black community.
Throughout history, adversity has often forced people to become innovators.
Many of the inventions that transformed society were born from individuals seeking solutions to everyday problems.
Sister Karrima believes there are countless untapped ideas waiting to be developed.
The challenge is having the courage to start.
