On October 7th, we celebrate the birth anniversary of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad, a significant icon whose impact on the lives of Black men and women in America still resonates deeply today. According to The Final Call "The Most Honorable Elijah Muhammad was born on or about October 7, 1897, in Sandersville, Georgia. He was the seventh of twelve children born to William (later named Wali) and Marie Poole."

The Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s life and legacy stand as a living testament to the transformative power of knowledge, faith, and divine vision. Though he received only a fourth-grade formal education, he was taught and guided for three and a half years by his teacher, Master Fard Muhammad, who imparted a divine body of knowledge that sparked a spiritual, social, and economic movement—one that reshaped the consciousness of millions and continues to influence generations today.

Building an Independent Education System
One of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s earliest and most vital missions was the establishment of a school system known as Muhammad University of Islam (MUI). This was not simply a school—it was a vision for liberation. He understood that true freedom could not be achieved within an educational system that distorted or erased the true history and identity of Black people.
Through MUI, he cultivated an independent mindset rooted in self-knowledge, discipline, and cultural pride. His goal was to produce a new generation—mentally, spiritually, and economically empowered to build and sustain their own nation.
This was not merely an academic pursuit; it was a revolutionary act of self-determination. By creating a curriculum centered on truth, respect, and self-reliance, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad laid the foundation for an independent nation—a people who would no longer be defined by false narratives or oppressed by systems designed to keep them ignorant of their divine potential.

Transforming Lives Through Faith and Discipline
The Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s teachings transformed countless lives. He provided a divine blueprint that helped men and women overcome destructive behaviors such as alcoholism, drug addiction, prostitution, and crime—habits often born from systemic oppression and generational poverty.
His message was one of identity, purpose, and self-respect. He taught that transformation begins with a renewal of the mind and the spirit. By instilling principles of self-discipline, hard work, and divine consciousness, he uplifted individuals from degradation to dignity—helping them see themselves as reflections of God, capable of greatness.
He emphasized that Black men and women were not born to be victims of circumstance but builders of civilization. His teachings restored a sense of self-worth and reshaped the community, turning what society once called “Negroes” into conscious, productive, and spiritually awakened individuals.
Media Independence: Controlling Our Narrative
Understanding the power of communication, the Honorable Elijah Muhammad established the Muhammad Speaks newspaper—one of the most significant milestones in Black media history. It became a vital platform for truth, empowerment, and education, countering the false narratives often perpetuated by mainstream outlets.
Today, that legacy continues through The Final Call Newspaper, rebuilt and revived by The Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, the greatest student of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad. The Final Call stands as one of the most powerful independent Black-owned media platforms in the world. It continues to inform, uplift, and inspire—covering issues of justice, economics, health, spirituality, and community building.
This independent media voice remains a beacon of self-determination, reminding us that controlling our narrative is essential to shaping our destiny.

The Economic Blueprint: Building a Self-Sustaining Future
The Economic Blueprint of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad remains a master plan for community development and self-sufficiency. It calls on us to:
Buy land
Establish farms
Build a distribution network for food and goods
Sustain a healthy, thriving, independent community
This blueprint teaches the power of collective economics, encouraging us to pool resources, support local businesses, and reinvest in our own neighborhoods. It underscores that economic independence begins with education, organization, and shared responsibility.
Students, entrepreneurs, and community builders today would do well to study and implement this plan, using it as a foundation for long-term progress and generational wealth.
A Nation Within a Nation
The Nation of Islam, under the teachings of the Honorable Elijah Muhammad and the guidance of the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan, remains open to all Black and Brown people seeking self-improvement, spiritual liberation, and community upliftment. Its foundation rests upon self-knowledge, strong family values, economic independence, and the reclaiming of identity and purpose.

A Legacy That Lives On
The Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s teachings have produced some of the most iconic and influential figures in modern history. Through his divine guidance, men such as Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali became world-renowned symbols of strength, courage, and transformation. Their rise from obscurity to greatness demonstrated the life-changing power of his message.
Today, the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan continues this divine mission with unshakable faith and global impact. Through his leadership, the message of Elijah Muhammad has reached across continents, uniting people around principles of truth, justice, and self-reliance.
The Blueprint for Greatness
The Honorable Elijah Muhammad’s legacy is not about individual fame—it is about awakening the greatness within every one of us. His teachings offer a clear path toward self-mastery, family restoration, and nation-building.
If studied and applied, they can transform individuals, families, and communities—producing men and women of strength, discipline, and divine character.
Today, we honor a Master Teacher who, with limited formal education, created an everlasting movement rooted in divine wisdom. His emphasis on self-knowledge, independent education, and economic empowerment remains a guiding light for all who seek truth and freedom.
