SPECIAL EDITION: The People vs. Power — New York Just Changed Politics Forever. Mayor Elect Mr. Zohran Mamdani

New York City made history. Not because a politician won—but because the people did.

Congratulations to Mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani, whose victory represents a true David-versus-Goliath moment. At only 34 years old, he entered the mayoral race without major money, without party—or institutional—backing, and without a recognizable political machine behind him. What he did have was faith, courage, and the people of New York.

While billionaires spent millions on attack ads, fear tactics, and smear campaigns, the voters didn’t budge. Their message was loud and clear:

Real power is with the people.

Despite false narratives, misinformation, and ugly attempts to paint him as an extremist, New Yorkers refused to be manipulated. Some even attacked his faith. But instead of arguing, Mr. Mamdani stood firm. When asked whether he would visit Israel—a topic unrelated to city challenges—he stayed focused: his priority is working with the communities who live here in New York. That honesty resonated deeply.

We have witnessed something rare in politics: A candidate who spoke to the people, not at them.

Many misinformed people believe that because he is Muslim, Sharia law would somehow be implemented. Critics in mainstream media attempted to use his faith to spark fear and confusion. But fear only grows where there is ignorance — so let’s educate, because information is power.

WHAT PEOPLE GOT WRONG ABOUT SHARIA LAW

Sharia simply refers to a moral and ethical way of living rooted in the Qur’an and the teachings of Prophet Muhammad. It guides personal conduct—how one treats family, community, and business affairs. Interpretations differ around the world, but its foundation is about peace, justice, fairness, and living responsibly.

It is not a political weapon. It is not a threat. It is a path of discipline rooted in belief in God.

WHAT ABOUT SOCIALISM?

Another word thrown around to scare voters was socialism. At its essence, socialism means prioritizing community needs over unchecked corporate interests. It promotes shared resources, fairness, accessible education, and healthcare—not leaving people behind for profit.

Plain and simple:It asks society to care about people, not just money. If caring for working families, affordable housing, or fair wages is a crime, then maybe we should question the system—not those trying to improve it.

ACCORDING TO MR MAMDANI'S PLATFORM: WHAT HE STANDS FOR.

Mr. Mamdani’s record shows action, not just ideas. He has:

  • Helped taxi drivers eliminate over $450 million in crushing debt.

  • Secured over $100 million to improve subway service.

  • Launched New York’s first fare-free bus pilot.

  • Organized communities to defeat environmentally harmful power plants.

As mayor, he plans to:

  • Freeze rent on stabilized units.

  • Expand fare-free buses citywide to speed up travel and save families money.

  • Create a Department of Community Safety that prevents violence instead of reacting to it.

  • Offer no-cost childcare from ages 6 weeks to 5 years.

  • Launch city-owned grocery stores, lowering food prices by removing profit motives.

  • Triple permanently affordable housing, building 200,000 new units.

  • Crack down on neglectful landlords, even taking over their properties if necessary.

  • Fund it by taxing large corporations and the ultra-wealthy, not working families.

WHY THIS MATTERS

For decades, politics has been about popularity, not purpose. Mr. Mamdani’s victory proves that:

  • People are tired of corporate-controlled media telling them what to think.

  • People are tired of being ignored after election night.

  • People want someone who sees them—not their vote—as priority.

Like President Obama, Mr. Mamdani will face resistance, slander, and obstruction. That’s what happens when someone challenges the status quo. The media may try to shape his narrative, but New Yorkers showed that they are thinking for themselves.

However—We cannot elect a leader and then sit back.

Transformation requires partnership:

“It cannot be left at the feet of any politician. The people must do their part.”

WHAT WE MUST REMEMBER

New York has always been a trendsetter. When we move, the nation watches.

This election was not about party affiliation. It wasn't about race, religion, or class.

It was about people choosing dignity, fairness, and a future worth staying for.

If we love our neighbors as ourselves—If we want for others what we want for our own families—Then change becomes unavoidable. This victory is not just Mr. Mamdani’s. It belongs to the people who believed that their voice mattered.

Let this be a reminder:

When people stand together, they become unstoppable.

Stay engaged. Stay informed. Stay involved. Because the real power has always been with us—the people.
