My Journey with Push for Love: A Reflection on Healing, Gratitude, and Growth.
By BLXCR Community Member Sister Kimarie, Founder & CEO of Push for Love
Each year when I host our Push for Love Healing Retreat, I’m reminded why this work matters so deeply. It’s more than an event—it’s a sacred experience. A moment to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what truly heals us from the inside out.
When I first started Push for Love, my goal was simple: to care for the caregivers, the overlooked, and the overworked. I wanted to create a space where people—especially those caring for others—could finally take care of themselves. Over the years, that mission has grown into something far more powerful: a movement for holistic healing, community strength, and spiritual renewal.

Setting the Stage for Healing
This year’s retreat was truly special. On Friday, September 6th, a small group of nine women gathered for Raindrop Therapy, led by our talented sister April Cohen. The gentle aroma of essential oils filled the room as we let go of the week’s weight and embraced peace.
The next morning, we shared breakfast at the Washingtonian Marriott—a simple moment that carried so much joy. We laughed, took group photos, and just enjoyed being present. From there, we returned to the Airbnb retreat house, our little sanctuary for the weekend.

Throughout the day, healing took many forms. Dante Baker’s Sound Bath Therapy offered vibrations that quieted our minds. Angela Ballard’s Chair Massage released the stress our bodies had been holding. Sarita’s Henna Art and Craft Table gave us space for creativity and self-expression.

Every detail was designed to remind us that healing isn’t a luxury—it’s a necessity.
A Night to Remember

As the sun began to set, the evening took on a new energy. Chef Daryl Muhammad prepared an incredible buffet dinner—his dishes were both healthy and flavorful, truly made with love.

The dining room was set in calming shades of blue, with a live violinist creating the perfect atmosphere for peace and reflection.
Our theme for the evening was “What About Us?”—a question that calls us to think about the ways we care for ourselves while serving others.
Pastor Henry Wallace delivered a powerful message that touched every heart in the room. He spoke about gratitude, reminding us that no matter what we’re going through, there is always someone in a more difficult situation. He shared his own story—how he once lost a finger but met someone with no legs. “Be grateful for what you have,” he said, “and move forward with faith.” Those words stayed with us all.
Then, Dr. Laurena White, a holistic medicine practitioner, shared her wisdom on the importance of treating the root causes of illness rather than masking symptoms. She spoke about a patient who struggled with infertility and, through natural healing, was able to conceive her first child. Her story was a living testimony that when we care for our bodies the right way, God allows them to heal as they were designed to.
Music, Spirit, and the Power of Love
Our evening was filled with beauty and inspiration. April Muhammad blessed us with her rendition of “Black Butterfly,” and Jaisyn lifted our spirits with “Strong Women.” The performances were more than entertainment—they were reminders of resilience and hope.
Before the night came to a close, Linda Joy Burk led us in a moving Music Therapy Session, which gave us the chance to release, reflect, and rejoice. Each note carried healing energy, helping us end the night with calm hearts and renewed spirits.

What Push for Love Means to Me
Every time I host a retreat, I thank Allah for guiding me in this mission. Push for Love has always been about more than just caregiving—it’s about community upliftment through self-care and spiritual balance.
When we take the time to heal ourselves, we become better mothers, sisters, friends, and leaders. Self-improvement begins with self-healing. That’s what these retreats are all about: finding that still, quiet place within us where faith, gratitude, and growth can
take root.

To those who have supported, attended, or prayed for the success of Push for Love—I thank you from the bottom of my heart. Each retreat is a reflection of our collective strength and love. And for those who have not yet joined us, I extend this invitation: come and experience what healing in community truly feels like.
Because at the end of the day, when we push for love, we push for life itself.
