In every journey, there comes a moment when you must return to the Source—the true Source of triumph. It’s greater than any challenge you face, any mistake you’ve made, or any emotion weighing you down. Whatever you’re trying to overcome, it begins with understanding that life is a process.
We often hold on to guilt, shame, or regret, not realizing that those low vibrations do nothing but paralyze us. Everyone falls. Everyone stumbles. But the real strength lies in getting back up and moving forward. Growth begins the moment we stop defining ourselves by who we used to be and start focusing on who we are becoming.
Financial Literacy Is Spiritual Too
Brother Vernon shares; "The same principle applies to finances. Too often, we avoid diving into the world of money because it feels overwhelming or out of reach. But understanding how finances work is a form of self-love and empowerment. Just like we keep up with the drama between celebrities, we need to invest time learning from individuals who can elevate us—figures like John Hope Franklin, Myron Golden, or Russell Brunson.
"Why don't we know their names as well as we know Drake or Kendrick? These are the voices that can teach us how to build something real. They can help us break generational cycles and become the economic foundation our families need."
Be a Student Again
As Brother Shaka said during our Sunday session, “We’ve got to become students again.” That doesn’t mean enrolling in a traditional school. It means using what we already have—our phones, our computers, our libraries—and diving into knowledge. We can learn about finance, discipline, healing, emotional health, and so much more with just a few keystrokes. The information is there. We just have to reach for it.
Inspiration and Proximity
Another powerful takeaway from our conversation is the importance of inspiration. Too many young people lack it—and it shows. But when they’re exposed to new ideas and fresh perspectives, you can see the spark light up inside of them. Suddenly, they’re curious. They want more. They ask questions like, “Who is the Honorable Minister Louis Farrakhan?” and “Maybe I can read this book.”
But inspiration won’t happen from afar. It takes proximity. We have to be close to our youth—physically and spiritually. They may not speak our language or wear what we wear, but we can still meet them where they are. Whether it’s on the basketball court, through music, or during a chess match, every moment becomes an opportunity to plant a seed.
Choose Your Circle Wisely
Growth also requires hard choices. As men, we must choose our circles wisely. Some people in our lives may be loyal to destruction, stuck in mindsets that no longer serve us. Remaining loyal to that kind of thinking will only hold us back. It’s okay to outgrow friendships. If you're treading water while someone refuses to learn how to swim, you’ll drown trying to save them.
We must be brave enough to walk away from the familiar if it's keeping us stagnant—and wise enough to walk toward what will help us elevate.
Building Through Brotherhood
These sessions are more than conversations—they're a lifeline. Brothers like Vernon and Shaka come together, not just to talk, but to build. Brother Shaka’s work with the Bravo Zulu Chess Academy is changing lives. For over a decade, he’s been teaching strategy and discipline through chess, offering scholarships, and helping youth develop into scholars and leaders. You can learn more at bravozuluchess.org.
Brother Vernon is a strategist helping Black-owned businesses with the foundations they need to succeed—financial literacy, planning, and structure. His firm, Camnon Business Services, has helped countless entrepreneurs turn their vision into reality. Visit camnonservices.com to learn more.
